Family

  1. “Lessons taught in the home by goodly parents are becoming increasingly important in today’s world.” (Elder Perry, Becoming Goodly Parents, 2012 October Conference)
  2. “In most marital contests the contending parents should give greater weight to the interests of the children.” (Elder Oaks, Protect the Children, 2012 October Conference)
  3. “The twin guardrails of deep personal conversion and strong family relations help keep us on the heavenly highway.” (Elder Perkins, Beware Concerning Yourselves, 2012 October Conference)
  4. “The The key to strengthening our families is having the Spirit of the Lord come into our homes. The goal of our families is to be on the strait and narrow path.” (Elder Hales, Strengthening Families: Our Sacred Duty, 1999 April Conference)
  5. “Happy families...have a way of forgiving and forgetting the imperfections of others and of looking for the good.” (Elder Uchtdorf, One Key to a Happy Family, 2012 October First Presidency Message in the Ensign)
  6. “All ordinances of exaltation are a family matter.” (Elder Nelson, Focus on Values, November 2011 address to youth in Kenya)
  7. “Perhaps the most universal regret dying patients expressed was that they wished they had spent more time with the people they love.” (President Uchtdorf, Of Regrets and Resolutions,  2012 October Conference)
  8. “Love your families. If there are disagreements or contentions among you, I urge you to settle them now.” (President Monson, As We Close This Conference, April 2012 Conference)
  9. “When we have sampled much and have wandered far and have seen how fleeting and sometimes superficial a lot of the world is, our gratitude grows for the privilege of being part of something we can count on—home and family and the loyalty of loved ones. We come to know what it means to be bound together by duty, by respect, by belonging. We learn that nothing can fully take the place of the blessed relationship of family life.” (President Monson, Worldwide Leadership Training, 2008)
  10. “Let us relish life as we live it, find joy in the journey and share our love with friends and family. One day, each of us will run out of tomorrows. Let us not put off what is most important.” (President Monson, Joy in the Journey, 2008)

Why it matters:

The family is the central unit in God's plan. Families are the most powerful way for us to learn gospel principles.  Just think of it: if people placed marrying and raising children with high moral standards as their highest priority, much of the problems we face in today’s world would be non-existent. Instead of focusing on building a career, people would be more invested in raising good, responsible citizens. The family unit can be a solid foundation for a testimony of Jesus Christ and His restored gospel.
